6th September 2009

Despite the wind dropping, today was a remarkable day. The highlight of the day was a Citrine Wagtail that flew over the island calling from Middle Eye before being relocated in Niffy Bay and seen well briefly by one observer before it, sadly, flew off towards Wales. If accepted it would be the first record for Hilbre.

As if that wasn't enough excitement the sea-watching remained excellent with a Long-tailed Skua seen with many Arctics and another juvenile Sabine's Gull drifted past after the tide, possibly the bird from the North Wirral shore on Saturday (see below).
