3rd June 2021

Weather: ESE force 3 misty early with slight drizzle, NNE 2 in the afternoon

A Spotted Flycatcher was in the island gardens for the first couple of hours this morning but was not seen subsequently. Often thought of as the latest migrant to arrive back from Africa, if we see any in spring it is usually before the end of May.

Small movements of other birds included a Redpoll over and a Siskin brought down by a short spell of drizzle.

Five Swifts came through, but most of the other small birds logged were probable breeders on the island, among those are the pair of Blackbirds who now have 3 juvenile young.

The Rock Pipits are also proud parents.

The Whitethroat still sings hopefully. Two Whimbrel were between the islands in the evening and 3 Grey Plover were here. Before dawn a flock of 35 Canada Geese flew North and in the evening 7 more flew west to east. Three Little Egret visited, and the pair of Eider stayed about
