1st August 2010

The most interesting migrant today was a Hummingbird Hawk Moth, left, (photo from elsewhere, CJ) which was found in the old obs garden. Less uncommon moths where identified from the lamp trap including Silver Y (below left) and the Antler (right).

Many of the local island birds are now in moult, young Dunnocks are growing head feathers (below left) and some adult Meadow Pipits are in their post-breeding main moult (below right).

Wading birds are now building up in numbers and the odd Arctic Skua is on the sea and hopes are high that soon that with the right weather conditions the autumn will be in full swing with good birds on land and sea.
Ringed:- 1 Wren, 1 Dunnock, 1 Meadow Pipit
