14th April 2013

Weather: SSE 4, 8/8 cloud, vis 30 miles, rain early

The wind picked up throughout the morning but despite less migrants than the last couple of days it was quality rather than quantity.

Highlight of the day was a female Ring Ouzel appeared flying south over the pond and was seen several times around the island during the first couple of hours of daylight but was extremely flighty.

Another male blackcap was caught along with small numbers of Goldcrests and singles of Chiffchaff and Willow Warbler. Despite only four Wheatears recorded a single male northern and the first Greenland Wheatear was caught in the potter traps.

On the sea at least 35 Little Gulls, 42 Sandwich Terns and the first CommonTern of the year were noted as well as a stunning summer plumaged Black-throated Diver.
