Highlight of today was a female Blackcap caught bearing a ring from another ringing station (right), a control such as this may only happen 1 or 2 times a year and it is always exciting to later learn its origin. A small fall of 10 Goldcrests early in the day, a few alba wagtails and 7 Goldfinches passing through was the main movement today apart from the 150 or so Meadow Pipits that were counted. A Collared Dove was trapped for ringing (left), another new ringing species for the year while 4 Woodpigeons were also recorded. A very scarce Hilbre species seen today were 3 Shovelers that flew between the islands. A female or first winter Merlin was logged. Six Little Gulls were on the sea, a regular sight at this time, but a telescope is usually needed. Other seabirds included 12 Sandwich Terns, the most so far this spring.
