18th May 2021

Weather: WSW force 3    mainly sunny after early cloud

With the wind now firmly in the west, hopes of any visible passage were not high, and so it proved. No warblers seen today apart from the Whitethroat which is still singing in the paddocks.

Even Goldfinches were absent which have been regular these last few weeks, although 3 Redpolls dropped into the old obs garden briefy in poor early light.

A single Greenland Wheatear landed in by the light and worked it's way down the west side. Waders were also very scarce, just a single Whimbrel, 3 Ringed Plover a few Dunlin and the ever present Oystercatchers were feeding around the island at low tide. The pair of Eiders sat out on the whaleback before mixing with the Herring gulls off the end of the life boat house. Five Little Egrets fished the east gutter and a Grey Heron searched the west side rock pools.

Male and female Mallard forsook the pond for pools at the north end while the island was undisturbed.

Ringed: Nil
