 Weather:  WSW force 3, W 3/4 in the afternoon

Four Wheatears arrived today, a single Willow Warbler was on the island and a few Swallows came through. It was one of the regular 'webs' shorebird survey day and waders etc are now increasing in numbers. There were 2,500 Oystercatchers, 725 Dunlin, 24 Ringed Plover, 4 Whimbrel and 25 Turnstone, both adults and juveniles.

 A shorebird not often mentioned are the Cormorants, a species ever present, there were 70 today, mostly fairly distant or on the sea, so the opportunity to get a lovely close shot on the island is tempting.

 Eighteen Scoter were a nice addition to the 'webs' list, as were 4 Little Egrets and 4 Shelduck, while gulls during the count period were 350 Black-headed, 500 Herring, 13 Lesser Black-backs and 18 Greater. Both Kestrel and Peregrine were present. Insects seen were 10 Small White butterflies and 2 Red Admirals,and a Migrant Hawker dragonfly. A battery problem with the lamp resulted in a reduced moth catch this morning despite the weather seeming perfect during the night.
