 Weather: SE force 0/1   later NNE   mist

It was misty and windless this morning and Common Snipe featured early on as they often have in the last week or so. In this case a group of 5 birds flew across the island and landed on the rocks below the obs.

Phylloscopus warblers were scarce first thing but a Chiffchaff was ringed mid-morning

and later on a small influx of Willow Warblers added 4 to the ringing total. Two Whitethroats were the only representatives of the larger warblers present today. Four Greenland Wheatears, 2 Grey Wagtails and 25 Meadow Pipits also came through, as did 6 House Martins and about 3 dozen Swallows. At high tide some of the waders settled in Niffy bay, and a look through them found a moulting adult Little Stint, which later moved to the west side of the island.

Other waders around the islands were 85 Ringed Plover, 32 Sanderling, 850 Dunlin, 3 Bar-tailed Godwits and 28 Turnstone. The male Kestrel was present also a Peregrine logged, and a Shag was noted with the 120 Cormorants, while 12 Little Egrets and 5 Grey Herons were on the shore. Insects recorded were 3 Red Admirals, 2 Green-veined Whites and a male Migrant Hawker dragonfly.
