7th April 2022

Weather:   WNW force 7      with dark clouds and showers

The gale continued overnight and into the morning making sea watching the focus for a short visit. As predicted on Tuesday, the first appearance of Sandwich Tern followed on swiftly after the first Gannets to arrive at the islands. Three were seen flying west in a sea watch from the sheltered areas of the obs along with 8 more Gannets and 5 Kittiwakes. Some of the Gannets gave close views.

Sea birds also showing were 2 Common Scoter, 2 Red-breasted Merganser and a Great Crested Grebe. Many of the waders hunkered down and managed to feed in the east gutter, including a couple of Grey Plover, 16 Sanderling and 12 Redshank.

A Blackbird continued to sing despite the adverse weather.
