10th May 2023

Weather:  WNW force 4/5

An afternoon visit found very little migration apparent on the island today in a north westerly. It never rained on Hilbre but plenty seemed to be passing to the south.

A look at the sea produced about 320 Gannets feeding, also 120 Sandwich, 65 Common and 15 Little Terns. Among the waders seen, impressive were 189 Ringed Plover.

There were 45 Sanderling and 16 Whimbrel, also lots of Dunlin (about 4,500), which tried to roost on Middle but kept being disturbed by a person stranded on the island and the Crows harassing the gulls there. There were 7 Little Egrets. The Eiders numbered 5 today, including 4 males (1 was an immature) and a female.
