7th June 2023

Weather: E force 2/3

A very chilly overcast morning (8 degrees with the wind chill) saw very little about  and led to a shortened visit. The couple of Swallows noted seemed to be struggling to find insects flying in the cold and spent much of their time sitting out of the wind

The 2 Goldfinch were still about and the female Pied Wagtail was collecting nest material, while young Rock and Meadow Pipits were seen often.

Eight Canada Geese rested on the shore at the edge of the swash, the female and an immature male Eider were out on the whaleback, five male Mallard were on the pond with the female joining them briefly. A Kestrel flew in from the east just as the observer was leaving .

A clump of Lyme Grass (Elymus arenarius) is a new plant for the island.
