Weather: NNE force 3/4
There was too much north in the wind today to expect any large movements of birds but one bird that is immune to any wind direction is the Osprey. Just after 10.00 all the birds were alerted around the island when an Osprey flew between the main island and Middle and went off towards the Hoylake. It was also seen shortly afterwards circling over Hoylake. The northerly element in the wind did not mean migrants were entirely absent however as there were 2 Willow Warblers and 3 Wheatears on the ground, and the first Whitethroat of the autumn was found. A touch of the upcoming season to come arrived with several Teal at the island early on, plus the 2 male Scoter still hung about, also 4 Shelduck and the 3 Shags at the north end. Another good number of Little Egrets (9) today, and still the Kestrel stays with us. There were not a massive amount of waders available to be seen but recorded were : 16 Ringed Plover, 12 Dunlin, 11 Turnstone, 40 Redshank and 2 Whimbrel. In the afternoon a Raven caught the eye of the observer leaving the island. Red Admirals declined today to a more normal number (20) and a single Small White.
