Weather: SE force 3, light air in the afternoon.
A magnificant day with sunshine and light breezes brought the first 2 Goldcrests of the spring to the island.
Other migrants arrived including 2 male Stonechats.
Passing through were 2 typical early spring visitors in the form of 2 Woodpigeons and a Reed Bunting. Finches about included 13 Linnets, some of which may be our breeders, also 4 Goldfinches, and a Siskin. There were 5 Meadow and 8 Rock Pipits seen as well as 3 fly- over alba Wagtails, 7 Robins, 4 Blackbirds and a Song Thrush on Middle. The previously seen german colour ringed Curlew was on the Whaleback below the light.
Brent numbered 240,
with 5 Eider and 3 Goosander including 2 drakes,
As they have doing lately the 27 Purple Sandpiper turned up below the obs after the tide.
The pick of the other waders were 22 Grey Plover, 50 Ringed Plover and 400 Sanderling. The completely calm waters enabled sightings of 55 Great Crested Grebes and 6,000 Common Scoter further out, the sort of weather that makes Porpoises easy to spot, but in this case the sole sighting was of a dead Porpoise being examined by Great Black- backed Gulls on the east hoyle.
The Kestrel was here, plus 2 Grey Herons.
The flowering Daffodils reminded us of the memorial to one of our founding members: John Gittens.
