Weather: SE force 2
A Marsh Harrier flew west over Middle Eye at 08.30 this morning. Marsh Harrier is a scarce passage visitor at Hilbre, more often in spring than autumn.
Other scarce but regular migrants here today were singles of Common Sandpiper, Common Snipe and Black-tailed Godwit, while on the island were 2 Wheatears, a Willow Warbler and a small number of Swallows passing through. There were 8 Grey Herons, which is more than usual, one standing on the island itself.
Twelve Common Scoter were the only sea birds apart from the 350 Sandwich and 21 Common Terns. Waders are starting to increase in numbers, today 350 Dunlin, 120 Ringed Plover and 24 Redshank fed with 4 Whimbrel. The weather has been ideal for deploying the moth trap, out of it this morning were the following:
