Weather: ESE force 3 slight mist
Wednesday was quiet despite the good feel to dawn with wind in the south and east and a slight mist. Delight of the morning was watching the 40 or so Gannets diving out in the bay. Also spotted in the telescope at distance were 350 Common Scoter, 6 Great Crested Grebe and a Guillemot closer in. Three female Goosander were here, and 5 Eiders showed up (3 males). At least 240 Brent are still present, 6 Shelduck were around the islands and 3 Mallard in the pond. Waders included 3,000 Knot, 26 Ringed Plover, 120 Turnstone and 9 Purple Sandpipers. Small passerines filtered through with about 75 Meadow Pipits, 2 White Wagtails, 2 Chiffchaffs, 2 Goldfinches, 1 Siskin and a Wheatear. Wrens seemed to be in greater numbers (14), surely some are new arrivals. The moth trap was deployed for the 3rd time today and at last a moth was caught, it was a Quaker.
