2nd August 24

Weather:  S force 3,  SW 5 in the afternoon, warm and sunny

Five Willow Warblers were ringed this morning,

..........and a bonus bird in the form of a Whitethroat.

All were juveniles undergoing their post-juvenile moult, as is expected at this time in early August. The 800 or so Dunlin showed around the island on the tide this morning.

Other waders included 28 Ringed Plover, 2 Bar-tailed Godwit, 15 Turnstone, 5 Whimbrel and 3 Curlew.

Eight Swallows flew about the island and small birds on the ground (apart from those that got ringed) were 11 Meadow Pipits, 7 Rock Pipits, 8 Wrens, a Pied Wagtail, a Robin and 2 Goldfinches.

Black-headed Gulls are a feature at the advancing tide, there were at least 400 today, also 150 Sandwich Tern and 122 Little Tern seen, possibly they have had a good breeding season. Six Eider, 2 Grey Heron, 8 Little Egret and the Kestrel were here.
