4th September 2025

 Weather: WNW force 1/2    rain

A midday visit found the 2 Brent from 2 days ago now on the Tanskey rocks. They were probably there or thereabouts yesterday.

A couple of Willow Warblers appeared after rain in the obs garden.

A Chiffchaff and a Whitethroat also arrived there at the same time.

Four Wheatears were here from the morning and also present were some regulars: 8 Rock Pipits, 6 Meadow Pipits and a Pied Wagtail. A little unexpected among the waders was a Black-tailed Godwit in the gutter.

Later 11 more were seen on the shore near the West Kirby marine lake. Some of the other waders were: 350 Curlew, 2 Whimbrel, 125 Ringed Plover, 62 Redshank, 50 Dunlin and 25 Sanderling. Sandwich Terns numbered 250 and Common Terns 25. Also on the log for the day were 9 Little Egrets, 1 Grey Heron, a Shag, the Kestrel and a Raven flying towards the island late in the afternoon.

Just 6 Red Admirals today and a Silver Y moth, flying in the daylight as they often do.

Ringed: 1 Willow Warbler, 1 Whitethroat, 1 Robin
