7th September 2025

 Weather:  SW force 4

A late afternoon arrival at the obs after all the rain had the bonus of being able to see the partial eclipse of the moon and how it progressed.

Before it went dark a quick look around revealed a couple of Black Terns flitting about the tern roost which was on the east hoyle but very distant from the island, hence the 'record shot'.

There were  180 Sandwich, 45 Common and 5 Little Terns in addition to the Black terns. A Chiffchaff was still on the island,

... other good finds were a Common Sandpiper, a Greenshank and the first Eiders here for some time, a male and a female type.

Two Linnets were at Little Eye (there were none recorded yesterday). Eight Little Egrets still fed and the Kestrel was seen to have a meal of one of our Short-tailed Field Voles. The normal waders were noted.
