 Weather: SSW force 4,      SW 2/3 in afternoon  mostly sunny, showers later

 A decent day for a south westerly airstream, 5 Robins, 5 Swallows heading south, 2  Chiffchaff and 2 Willow Warblers..... 

 plus 5 Wheatears.

 

 The Pied Wagtail this morning has possibly been around for some time now

Good records also of waders including the (rare at Hilbre) Green Sandpiper heard calling down the east side, also 2 Greenshank feeding in both the gutter and lagoon.

 

 Notable among the other waders were 2 Whimbrel, 4 Bar-tailed Godwit and 8 Sanderling.

Thirty Five Sandwich Tern stayed around the estuary and a Guillemot was watched on the sea. The wildfowl included 45 Common Scoter off shore, 4 Shelduck, 4 Canada Geese that flew east, 2 Brent from the last few days and the pair of Eider seen yesterday (female below).

 

A colour ringed Little Egret was feeding about the island which was probably ringed at Hale.


 The Kestrel has a new perch since the weathervane has been re-erected on the lookout.

 

 A Harbour Porpoise was logged on the sea. A surprisingly good day was had for numbers of butterflies today: 18 Red Admirals, 

 

also 5 Large White, 2 Small White, 4 Green-veined White, a Speckled Wood, a Silver Y moth and 2 Painted Ladies.
