22nd May 2021

Weather: NNW force 4, rain early

The early morning tide revealed 17 Gannets, 12 Sandwich Terns and 2 Guillemots on the sea, while a number of waders rested the tide, including 3 Whimbrel, 5 Grey Plover, a Bar-tailed Godwit, 180 Knot and 25 Turnstone (with about half in summer plumage). Over 300 Dunlin and 35 Ringed Plover however fed in small parties at the south end of the main island over the tide.

Our singing Whitethroat was again the only warbler present although 5 Greenland Wheatears paused on their way north. Eight Little Egrets were located also the pair of Eider, 12 Shelduck and a female Peregrine. The moth trap was naturally quiet last night but did yield a Brimstone Moth.
