Weather: SW force 3 covering of snow first thing
A post tide late afternoon visit managed to catch and ring a Blackbird and a Goldcrest in the old obs, Goldcrest is slightly unusual in the middle of winter. In the ebbing gutter was a single Teal and then 7 Eiders. Most of the snow had melted by this time of the afternoon but it is always nice to see at Hilbre.
Just 3 Purple Sandpipers were seen after the tide, also 25 Turnstone, 800 Knot, 500 Dunlin, 200 Grey Plover, 10 Ringed Plover, 50 Redshank and 10 Sanderling.
The West Kirby marine lake has been good value this last week with record numbers of Goosanders including over 30 today. There has also been Red-breasted Mergansers, a Little Grebe (rare for there) and a Kingfisher.
