1st May 2025

 Weather: SSE force 2/3

Right from the off a new species for the year was on the island, a Whinchat.

Singing around the island were 2 Sedge Warblers, while the 2 Willow Warblers and the Chiffchaff were not inclined to sing.

There were 4 Wheatears this morning, at least 3 being Greenland birds.

The flat calm sea seemed devoid of birds except for a few Sandwich Terns until a flotilla of 5 Great Crested Grebes floated down the west side.

Casual visitors included a Siskin, (the only finch) and a roaming Magpie,

and a brute of a Woodpigeon.

A pair of White Wagtails looked happily settled in.

A Sand Martin and 9 Swallows flew about the island, some are local breeders.

Not so many Whimbrel today, 8 seen, 2 Bar-tailed Godwits also 40 Ringed Plover and 260 Dunlin. A Shag and later 5 Eiders were at the north end. A female Orange tip butterfly was loving the flowers in the S K paddock.

The Fox was spotted strolling around the Telegraph house gardens.
