1st August 2022

 Weather: SE force 2     warm

The great Orme was clearly visible this morning.

A brief visit by our member and he was fortunate enough to ring a very juvenile Redstart.

Although a scarce but regular passage bird at Hilbre, one of this age is seldom seen and it would be tempting to imagine that it has not travelled far, but we shall never know. There were a lot of swallows today, it was ideal feeding conditions for them, sunny, warm and no breeze. The local ones were augmented by quite a few others passing through. There were as usual lots of gulls and terns and quite a few waders including Dunlin and Ringed Plover and good number of Redshank. In addition to the Redstart, 5 Linnets and a juvenile Song Thrush were also ringed.
