14th July 2021

 Weather:   W force 3, later NE 2/3

Following the run of surprise warblers this month, this time a surprise thrush in the form of a Redwing. The bird was caught and ringed. Could it be the bird sighted here on 1st July ? if so its been elsewhere in the meantime ! As mentioned at that time, this winter species is rarely seen at this season of year. A Whitethroat was also present as could be one of the 2 or 3 here recently. A Goosander was another of the good birds noted today, while both sexes of Eider were here. Seven Gannets were on the sea and both juvenile Blackbird and Pied Wagtail were around the island. Butterflies logged were 4 Small Tortoiseshells and a Gatekeeper.
