19th July 2021

Weather:N force 2,  very warm and sunny

During a short visit late morning a lovely adult summer Mediterranean Gull flew over our observer at the north end of the island. They often seem to turn up when unexpected, searching through the many Black-headed Gulls near the island is normally fruitless. A look around the shore found a summer  plumaged Turnstone, 6 Redshank, 4 Little Egrets, a Grey Heron and the female Eider. All the regular breeding birds were there, with the Linnets especially abundant (60 birds), many gathering on one of the building roofs. Among the butterflies 10 Small Whites flew with 3 Gatekeepers, 2 Small Tortoiseshells and a Cinnabar moth.
