Weather: SE force 5 at first later SW 5
A little more action today on the bird front with another remarkably high count of 28 Little Egrets, a record for Hilbre? most roosted at Middle Eye during the tide.
Visitors this morning included a Snipe and a female Goosander
Some flocks flying by comprised 500 Pink-footed Geese, now regularly using the Dee, and some 1250 Black-tailed Godwits, no doubt from the roost at Caldy. No Peregrine today but the Kestrel was bathing in the obs gutters and feeding around the south end.
A check on the waders produced records of 6,000 Oystercatchers, 350 Curlew, 125 Dunlin, 40 Knot, a summer plumaged Grey Plover and 12 Redshank.
Despite the fresh wind, sea birds were few, only a Red-throated Diver, 40 Common Scoter, a Guillemot and a Great Crested Grebe.
There were 57 Brent (including a dark-bellied) a good count of 165 Shelduck. The only small migrants were a Goldfinch and a Grey Wagtail. Towards the West Kirby beach 2 Ravens battled with the gulls
and a new Mediterranean Gull (different from yesterday) sat between Little Eye and the mainland
