Weather: WSW force 6/7 at first, mild
A near gale greeted the early visitors to the island and birds seemed to be making themselves scarce, although a little later Brent appeared in large numbers with 480 noted.
No Eiders wrere seen by mid-morning but 7 Common Scoter were hanging around the shore off the east side. Gulls featured 12 Great Black-backed and 3 Common.
Sighting of the morning was an immature Mte Swan that flew from the mainland and landed in the sea about a quarter of a mile off the west side of Little Eye. The Kestrel was even more obliging than usual to sit for photos.
A couple of Purple Sandpipers were noted as were 50 Turnstone, 100 Dunlin, 6 Knot, 300 Oyustercatchers and 67 Curlew.
Small residents included 3 each of Meadow and Rock Pipits, a Song Thrush, 3 Blackbirds and 2 Robins.Photos AEH
