23rd August 2024

Weather: W force 9/10 in the early hours then 7/8 at dawn before dropping to 6 later.

The wind was ferocious pre-dawn, then very squally a bit later before settling down to a breezy force 6. The sea again did not live up to expectations with just 3 Arctic Skuas seen plus 2 Gannets, 1 Great Crested Grebe and 10 Scoter. Among the terns were 195 Sandwich, 4 Common and a Little Tern. A selection of the waders were 230 Ringed Plover, 75 Turnstone, 40 Sanderling, 120 Dunlin, 35 Redshank and 6 Whimbrel.

Eight Eiders still showed, as did a nice bee, Colletes fodiens on ragwort.

A Painted Lady and a Small White represented the butterflies.
