Weather: NE force 3
A Sparrowhawk was an unexpected but welcome visitor to the island today. Despite the northerly element in the wind a single Wheatear arrived with 3 Willow Warblers.
A Grey Wagtail also paid a visit and 3 Swallows fed on the way through. On the resident side 10 Rock Pipits showed, a real change since a few years ago, with 2 Meadow Pipits and 12 Linnets remaining. Around the island were 2 Shelduck, 2 Common Scoter, 8 Little Egret, 150 Sandwich Tern, 10 Common Tern, 110 Cormorants and a Shag.
Good numbers of waders included 180 Ringed Plover, 60 Sanderling, 300 Dunlin, 75 Redshank, a single Bar-tailed Godwit and 14 Turnstone.
Six Whimbrel still call around the islands where 280 Curlew rest on the shore.Lepidoptera featured well this morning with 18 Red Admirals, 20 Small Whites and a Comma butterfly.
The moth trap was deployed in the obs garden last night for the other half of lepidoptera order and produced good results:
