1st September 2023

Weather:  SE force 1/2 misty   NNE 2 by evening

The start of September began with a few migrants passing through, 3 or 4 dozen Meadow Pipits moved south, also psassing through were half a dozen Pied Wagtails and a couple of male Wheatears.

A Chiffchaff was still here from 2 days ago while new visitors included a male Sparrowhawk and scarce waders in the form of a Greenshank and a Common Sandpiper.

Of course the regular waders roosted the very high tide, many on the island rocks.

Some wader numbers from today were 300 Ringed Plover, 1,800 Dunlin, 40 Sanderling, 3 Whimbrel and a Bar-tailed Godwit. There were 2 Kestrels and a single Peregrine made a spectacular appearance.

The 3 Eiders were still present. Some members spent many hours today doing maintenance work on the Obs.
