Dawn was stunning from the Obs this morning but the sun only slid behind the cloud and it remained cold. The unpleasant feel to the morning nevertheless grounded 5 Goldcrests and 2 Chiffchaffs which were found in the gardens just after dawn with a single Chiffchaff caught and ringed (complete with pollen horn - see below) and a couple of Wheatears and 2 White Wagtails elsewhere, although all seemed to have departed by mid-morning.
A returning Meadow Pipit ringed on the coincident date of 2nd April 2014 at Hilbre was retrapped in the 'Heli' garden for the first time this year today (see below).
Later 5 Canada Geese flew about the islands but little else could be found apart from 5 Little Egrets and 8 Carrion Crows. Light rain did not improve the situation and the observers left earlier than expected.
Ringed: 4 Goldcrests, 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Dunnock [ 46-9 ]
