23rd April 2021

Weather: SE force 2    sunny and warm later

No warblers at all were found today and the most numerous migrants were the 45 Lesser Redpolls, a small number of which were ringed.

Other finches seen/heard were 7 Siskins and 8 Goldfinches. A Tree Pipit called over Middle Eye and another on the main island, and a single Yellow Wagtail was at the north end. Pink-footed Geese were in stealth mode today, 130 oddly passing mid-morning without calling. News of other wildfowl included 2 Greylags flying west, A dark and 2 pale-bellied Brent swan about on the sea while a single pale Brent joined the 3 Mallards and 2 Cananda geese on the island pond.

Three Greenland Wheatears, a White Wagtail, 2 Sand Martins and 8 Swallows completed the other small migrants. No less than 8 Little Egrets fed in the ebbing gutter.

and 8 Whimbrel roosted the tide on the whaleback, over 20 are thought to be around the rocks.

All eyes are on the few Rock Pipits to confirm breeding on the islands.

Gannets are now a regular sight feeding off the islands, 25 did so today.
