3rd April 2021

Weather: ESE force 1, backing NNW during the day, sunny, slight frost at dawn

Similar conditions as yesterday, and similar few migrants with no warblers nor hirundines, just 2 White Wagtails, 6 Goldfinch, 2 Siskin and a Reed Bunting.

The Pinkfeet continued the now traditional April movement north from Wirral, over 300 flew this morning.

An increase in Canada Geese today with 6 flying past.

Little Gulls are now another April speciality at Hilbre, 12 were noted today, also 65 Common Scoter. Purple Sandpipers made a come-back with 6 being seen,

The Brent were down to 128, and again we speculate that the rest have already departed, although very often we are proved wrong the next day. Some other wader numbers were 40 Sanderling, 200 Knot, 75 Turnstone and 26 Redshank, and also on the log 4 Little Egrets, 2 Grey Herons, the Eider and a pair of Shelduck. Six Wrens seem to be resident at the moment.

Herring Gulls are surprisingly numerous right now, 2,000 were around the islands today, along with 80 Common, 4 Greater and 14 Lesser Black-Backs.
