13th May 2023

Weather: E force 2    slight mist

Early this morning a summer plumaged Black Guillemot was sitting off the north end of the island. Usually less than annual this is the fourth sighting here this year, and like the recent Puffin is a very scarce bird in Cheshire.

Nearby were about 1,200 Dunlin making noises than indicate their imminent departure.

Just a singlw Whimbrel again this morning, also 26 Ringed Plover and a Grey Plover.. Thirty five Gannet and 3 Common Scoter were logged with 35 Sandwich and 12 Common Tern. Small migrants were again very scarce, but a slight change in wind direction from yesterday meant we at least had a Pied wagtail and 2 Goldfinches and best of all a late Stonechat after several records in the early spring.

Eiders present this morning were 2 males and a female and 4 Little Egrets fed today.

From the moth trap this morning were Brown silver Line,

also  Shears

and the first Marbled Coronet of the year.
