Weather: W force 4, later WNW 4 and WSW 1
A Blackcap was ringed early morning and another later on singing in the SK paddock.
Despite the wind being basically in the west, there was some movement of birds through the island, 10 Willow Warblers, a White Wagtail and 9 Greenland Wheatears arrived but most impressive was a flock of 29 Goldfinches, we are not used to such large flosks at Hilbre.
A Grasshopper Warber was reeling at the south end of the island later in the morning.
Also singing was a single Whitethroat. The terns (60 Sandwich and 12 Common) were roosting at the south end of the island during the morning tide and 18 Gannets and 2 Guillemots were about the sea. Four Goosanders flew between the islands and off towards Wales, while the 3 Eiders preferred to stay here..
In the moth trap this morning was a Red-green Carpet.
Ringed: 2 Blackcaps, 1 Linnet, 1 Goldfinch.
