 Weather: NW force 3/4, backing SW 4 then SE 5 later

In the morning over 1,000 Pink-footed Geese were seen coming from the north east over Caldy hill into the estuary. Two hundred and twenty Common Scoter could be seen off Hoylake shore with 3 Guillemot also in the area. A single Great Crested Grebe was off the north end,

A Shag was noted and as the tide made a lovely summer plumaged Red-throated Diver was on the east side of the island. Over 100 Turnstone roosted over the tide, and 85 Redshank were feeding in the gutter. Eighty Knot were in the lagoon until moved by the tide.

Other waders included 160 Sanderling, 90 Ringed Plover and several Bar-tailed Godwits.

The 3 Eider were back, 17 Shelduck were here and a large increase in the numbers of Brent occurred with 44 counted today.

Most photogenic subjects were 2 Grey Wagtails on the ground

 

 The single Wheatear present was also quite striking.

 

 

 

  Six Skylarks passed through, one captured here in flight.

Six Goldcrests were in the gardens this morning, 2 were later ringed alongside one of the  3 Chiffchaffs.

 Seventeen Little Egrets were feeding this morning.

Both Peregrine and Kestrel represented the raptors of the day.
