27th March 2024

Weather: ESE force 5  veering SE 5    with heavy showers

There were 3 Chiffchaffs on the island this morning and 5 Goldfinches, a Chaffinch and a Skylark came through on the day. Two Shelduck were around the shore.

A Canada Goose joined the 220 Brents on the east side during the ebb and six Eider floated in. It was difficult to get an accurate count of the Niffy Bay wader roost as today they were on Lion Rock with some out of sight on the east side, but 120 Turnstone, 50 Redshank and 7 Purple Sandpiper were noted along with a few of the 50 Dunlin around the island.

Heavy rain showers in the afternoon made birding and maintenance work difficult but a rainbow brightened the enforced lengthy tea break.

The light improved late afternoon enabling a photo of the Wheatear found on Middle.

Three Little Egret and a single Grey Heron were here.

 Ringed; 1 Chaffinch, 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Wren
