5th March 2024

Weather: ESE force 3/4    slight mist

Similar weather to yesterday and similar birds. Six Stonechat today making one more than yesterday.

Two were caught for ringing.

Just a single Redwing first thing today, it was in the gardens, probably the same bird that stayed in the Old Obs yesterday.

House Sparrows also increased over yesterday, there were 5 in the gardens today.

The adult male Eider seems to have picked a meal that fought back, he spent a considerable amount of time out on the North End rocks trying to remove a crab which wouldn't let go and seems to have plucked quite a few of the Eider's breast feathers!

There no divers logged again, we had to be satisfied with 600 Common Scoter and 11 Grest Crested Grebes. Small waders included 4 Purple Sandpipers, 24 Ringed Plover and a Bar-tailed Godwit. Despite the nice birds there were no finches this morning apart from 4 Linnets. Four Pied Wagtails were noted, Wrens numbered 12, some may be visitors, likewise some of the 7 Blackbirds.
