9th March 2024

Weather: E force 4/5 ENE,  5/6 by noon

The early movement of spring migrants stalled again today following the change in weather, and so attention was once again on waders and wildfowl, and some maintenance work around the island. The only really unexpected visitor was a Stock Dove paying a visit. Four Eiders were here again, 1 adult male, 1 immature male and 2 females.

The Brent still numbered 426 (including one dark-bellied), most will be here for the next 3 or 4 weeks. Common Scoter can be seen out towards the wind farm, 1,520 estimated today including the odd one staying close to the island.

Four Great Crested Grebes completed the 'sea birds'. Sightings of Red-throated Divers have been almost non-existent this last week or so. Waders often give close views at the high tide, there were 14 Purple Sandpipers,

also 120 Turnstones,

Here with a Knot,

and 55 Redshank.

There were at least 6 Rock Pipits, some with our colour rings fitted on the island.
