Weather: NW force 3
A quiet day with no passerine movement, but 2 Dunnock were singing in the gardens, the local Meadow Pipits and Linnets were present and one of the two Carrion Crows was observed taking nest material to the west side of middle.
A flock of 45 Dunlin flew North out of the estuary, other waders present included 71 Redshank, 295 Oystercatcher, 112 Curlew, 2 Grey Plover and a single Bar-tailed Godwit.
Five Gannet were seen out by the wind farms, Great Crested Grebe also numbered 5 with 250 Cormorant, 2 male Red-breasted Merganser and 12 Common Scoter.
Sandwich Terns were again noted on and around the West Hoyle and 38 were counted with 2 Little Gulls and 5 Guillemot in the same area during early evening.
A female Merlin was seen and a drake Mallard visited the pond.
Short-tailed Field Vole numbers have been very low over the past couple of years due to predators on the Island but today one was seen running over a grass path by the ‘bunker’, hopefully indicating that their numbers are increasing.
