Weather: SE force 2, later ESE 5 misty early
Just a single Willlow Warbler here this morning so a bonus was a Whitethroat caught for ringing.
A few Swallows flew around the island in addition to the locals, but a small passage of House Martins (18) was evident. Two Collared Doves arrived for a while and 2 Wheatears were on the ground. One of the highlights of the day was a male Hobby that flew into the wind. A Gannet, a Common Scoter and 22 Little Terns was the result of a high tide sea watch. The moth trap was very fruitful this morning with several hundred moths of about 45 species. best of them was a Tissue moth which we are checking for a Hilbre first.
also a Grey Chi which is definately scarce at Hilbre.
With are insect expert present today he identified this wasp as a hoverfly mimic volucella zonaria
