19th August 2021

Weather: SW force 3, misty, by mid morning SE 1 with intermittent drizzle.

The mist came in by 8.00 am and it became quite cold and damp. There were at least 7 Rock Pipits present with 5 retrapped and 2 new juveniles ringed, proving how sucessful the breeding season has been for these birds on the island.

Also sucessful have been the pair of Blackbirds, a new bird was ringed while another was retrapped.

Ringing continued with a migrant in the form of 1 of the 2 Willow Warblers present.

A Wheatear arrived late morning and was the only other migrant before 2 more arrived in the afternoon. The Kestrel was on the island and 11 Little Egrets on the shore, as were 350 Black-headed Gulls, 9 Bar-tailed Godwits and 10 Ringed Plovers. A single Gannet was noted later in the day and 220 Sandwich Terns roosted on the east hoyle.
