10th October 2019

Weather: WSW force 4
A visit on a blowy afternoon found 4 Goldcrests in the SK paddock but only one was caught and ringed. Other small birds were few, just a couple of Robins and about 6 Wrens. A Merlin was on the ridge by Middle. A total of 19 Little Egrets were counted including several that could be seen towards the tanskeys.
Other sightings as the tide ebbed included a Mediterranean Gull towards Little Eye, in the same area were 2 Wigeon and 225 Shelduck.
Eight Brents were seen to arrive 'new in' from the north, joining the other 58 previously counted. Only 20 Turnstone were seen, but good numbers of Sanderling (250) and Bar-tailed Godwits (28) were on the north shore. Best on the sea were 35 Common Scoter and 3 Great Crested Grebes.
Ringed: 1 Goldcrest [ 701-31 ]
