16th March 2022

Weather:  SE 2,  light drizzle, NW by midday,

A lighter wind this morning and the threat of rain encouraged quite a few migrants to visit us. Several dozen Meadow Pipits passed through, also 13 Goldfinches, 4 Redpolls, 4 Chiffchaffs, 6 Goldcrests 3 Siskins and a White Wagtail. Another wandering male House Sparrow showed about the island.

Ringing was quite successful this morning with a Chiffchaff, 4 Goldcrests, Linnet and Dunnock all being ringed, also 4 Rock Pipits and breeding Blackbird were retrapped which will be useful data this year.

Siskins however were more evasive as usual.

As the wind veered towards the north west later in the morning most of the movements ceased as expected. Among the other species recorded today 3 Eiders were notable.

Four Mallards were on the pond , 300 Common Scoter were logged with 8 Great Crested Grebes on the sea, also 8 Shelduck around the island and the Kestrel was in attendance.
