Weather: SSE force 1/2 , later SW 1 mist
Glorious weather, although a quieter day birdwise than yesterday but still a about 4 dozen Meadow Pipits, a few Wagtails, and single figures of finches passing. Blackbirds however increased to 5 on the island with 3 new birds being ringed. Regular spring visitors at this time did not disappoint (a Starling, 2 Skylarks, 3 Wood Pigeon, and 2 Stock Doves flying south) and again a House Sparrow.
No Wheatears again and Chiffchaffs were also absent, while the 2 Goldcrests included a bird from yesterday. Very pleasing was the finding of 24 Little Gulls seen off the west hoyle bank to the north west, a typical sighting at Hilbre at this time of year, while sea watching also logged were 300 Common Scoter, 2 Great Crested Grebes, 3 Red-breasted Mergansers and a pair of Goosanders in a pool at the south end of the reef early in the day. A Snipe was over the obs calling, more typical waders were 32 Grey Plover, 14 Ringed Plover, 120 Knot and 45 Redshank. Hoping to find food today were 2 Kestrels and a Raven.
