19th March 2022

 Weather: ESE force 6   hazy

By far the event of the day was the fly past of 34 Whooper Swans travelling north. They had been earlier been seen resting on the estuary sands at Thurstaton.

The finch passage continues, there were 22 Siskin, 13 Goldfinch, a Chaffinch, plus a couple of dozen Meadow Pipits, a few Pied Wagtails and a Skylark. No Chiffchaffs today and just a single Goldcrest. The obligatory Woodpigeon paid a visit. Some of the Goldfinches came down for a look around.

Sea inhabitants included a Red-throated Diver, 7 Great Crested Grebes, 9 Scoter, with 2 local Shelduck around the island.

There is still a good count of 14 Purple Sandpipers.
