11th January 2024

Weather:  light air at dawn then 3/4 in the afternoon

A very quiet day and with the member present doing work sightings were at a minimum. A swan species was seen distantly flying north east, unfortunately it was not identified as it was not seen until it was well passed the island and so no photos were available. One of the 2 Song Thrushes present spent time feeding in the obs garden.

Seven Shelduck were by Little Eye, and a count of 420 Brent was made.

Counts of waders included 1,700 Knot, 25 Dunlin, 250 Grey Plover, 144 Curlew and 14 Purple Sandpiper.

Best on the sea were 36 Great Crested Grebes and 60 Common Scoter. Four Eiders seen included a female. Twelve Wrens were amongst the small number of small residents.
