1st January 2024

Weather: WSW force 5, slowly decreasing

A clear sky for the first day of the new year, the WSW wind slowly abated making for a nice morning, the moon was bright before sunrise.

A pair of Goosander fed for a short time at the north end of the island giving close views.

A pair of Raven entertained visitors to the island with their tumbling display and crocking calls for over an hour.

They later fed on the north shore with Carrion Crows on a dead Oystercatcher.

Some of the waders noted were 20 Ringed Plover, 40 Turnstone and 10 Curlew.

The female Kestrel is still around.

Only 2 Brent Geese could be seen on the low tide, while on the island only one Rock Pipit, 3 Wrens, 2 Blackbirds, 2 Song Thrushes and a Robin.
