7th January 2024

Weather:  no wind     clear and sunny but cold

A very early start for the early morning tide and an arrival to a heavy frost with both the Moon and Venus lighting the sky.

A party of 5 Goosander arrived shortly after sun rise followed by a party of Wigeon,

a drake was on its own with the 450 Brent Geese calling for an hour on the east shore.

A male Peregrine arrived from the north quickly moving down the estuary harrying the waders as it went.

A single Raven sat on Middle and the resident Kestrel was also present.

On the frozen pond was a single Redshank with Blackbird and Meadow Pipits too.

On the sea was 2 Red-throated Diver and 22 Great Crested Grebe amongst the 3000 Common Scoter. Four Eider floated past the Obs as the tide ebbed.

Despite the cold Daffodils were fully out in some parts of the island.

On return to the mainland 3 Goldeneye and 5 Goosander fed on WKML.
