Weather: N force 3, light rain shower overnight, sunny later
The northerly breeze made it a lot quieter this morning but a Grasshopper Warbler was present and was caught for ringing. The only Blackcap on the island had arrived yesterday (it and had put on weight since it's arrival) and a Willow Warbler was the sole small warbler to be seen. Three White Wagtail however came to the island. Eight House Martins came through and 16 Swallows flew over the island.
A few of the Swallows look as though they had arrived to breed.
There was no shortage of Wheatears however with 12 Greenland types showing well on the ground.
A single Redpoll passed through and 16 Goldfinches came down.
Another record count for the spring when 31 Whimbrel were counted.
Others present today were a Raven, a Black-tailed Godwit and 2 Eider. The result of a sea watch after the tide produced a running total of 182 Sandwich, 22 Common and 4 Arctic Terns, 72 Gannet, 4 Guillemots, 3 Kittiwake 6 Crested Grebes and 16 Common Scoter and a single Red-throated Diver, most of these moving west after the tide. Four Purple Sandpiper showed themselves and there were 18 Bar-tailed Godwits, 12 Ringed Plover and 25 Sanderling.
